WOC - Tour Denmark

06.08.2006

World Orienteering Championship, I participated in the 6 day extended race. Each day had its difficulties. I ran a distance of 62km overall with daily averages of 9-12km courses. The terrain and the organization was perfect. I was in the first 11 after each day of the race and at the end of the 6 days I placed 9th overall. The excitement of the World Champion was in the air and there were there were 20 thousand people total watching and participating in the race.

Day 2

Grand Prix Silesia

25.07.2006

5 day race around the Silva camp in the Czech Republic. The course in the forest is 4km away from the camp. The race was tiring and my foot was sprained and I was exhausted from training so I finished the race without straining myself too much. I was running an average of 8-12km races. After each day of racing, we’d go dancing in the evening. After finishing the race and camp, I stayed 5 more days in Prague. Thank you Marketa and Mreke for your hospitality.

Silva O-Camp

18.07.2006

Czech Republic, 14 day Orienteering camp. We were a 15 person group with people from IOG in Turkey and Alev Schools. There were 300 participants from other countries in Europe. I had map practice two times a day and I ran morning and evening with Slovak runner Marian Davidik. We swam in the natural ponds in the cliffs. The atmosphere of the camp was pleasant and the forest was close by. There were lots of activities to do at the camp aside from Orienteering.  My team lead most of the races during the camp. I want to thank my French friend who took me to the camp with his car from Poland.

Day 2

This was the first race of my tour in a small quaint town called Londek-Zdroj. It was a 5 day race and the first day was on a terrain where I couldn’t see the ground from the thick vegetation. I fell countless number of times and finally hit my collar bone on a boulder. I ran with a swollen ankle in the remaining days.  On the second day of the race at the 10th target, I didn’t have luck on my side and was attacked by a swarm of bees which stung my my arms, legs and all over my body. I ran as fast as I could to the 11th target but I was not able to resume concentrating on the map. The course was very rocky, uneven and long. After 5 days I was 12th.
